Yep, you read correctly, there is yet another recall in place for eggs contaminated with salmonella. The perp this time: the nation's largest egg producer and distributor, Cal-Maine Foods Inc., though the actual contaminated eggs came from their supplier, Ohio Fresh Eggs, who recently tested positive for the bacteria.
Ohio Fresh Eggs officials stated that the contaminated eggs originated from their barn in Croton, Ohio, and were held back after the salmonella was found. Some (288,000) of those eggs were mistakenly sent to Cal-Maine Foods who then distributed them to eight states.
"Ohio Fresh Eggs sincerely regrets the error made on our farm, and we apologize to our customer and to consumers who may have purchased the eggs," the officials said. "We are redoubling our efforts to ensure thorough and ongoing training of our workers so that this situation is not repeated."
