On Tuesday, the state reported 3,263 new coronavirus cases and 49 deaths, and Florida Politics recently reported on a new estimation which says that more than 50,000 have died from COVID-19 in Florida, higher than the state’s official count of 35,783. Still, there are some bright spots.
The more than 65,000 tests processed Monday came back with a daily positivity rate of 5% (The World Health Organization recommends that areas remain below 5% for two weeks before lifting virus-related restrictions—we’re not there yet). What’s more is that more than 1 million people have been vaccinated in Hillsborough and Pinellas combined.
The local concert scene is finding ways to try and stay on its feet. We’ve marked the gigs at venues that have joined a Tampa-based and city-recognized “Safe & Sound” initiative that pledges to strictly enforce limited capacity, mask wearing and social distancing—and tried our best to explain COVID-19 protocols at venues that not able to join Tampa’s “Safe & Sound” program.
