Tonight at Shuffle, a sold-out crowd will gather to hear award-winning historian Manny Leto do another installment of his famed “Drunk Tampa History” talk. There’s an overflow area in the backyard for anyone who didn’t get a ticket, and everyone is encouraged to stay when the talk wraps and experience some of the best—and latest up-and-coming-rappers the city has to offer.

Perception—who wa featured on the cover of Creative Loafing Tampa Bay in 2023—is the feature artist for this week’s edition of the “Remix” open mic series where scene staples like DJ Faz, Kay Three, Tone I.E, and DJ Kellan have built one of the most loyal followings in the Bay area.

Now in the hands of a group led by Tampa rapper Psych “don’t rap over vocals” Montano, Remix wants all Drunk Tampa History attendees to stick around to see an artist who’s tried new material and cut his teeth of stages like Remix. The performance from Perception, who is also a producer, is part of this month’s “Tampa Legends” series which has already seen Asaru and Jroc Jones come to the stage.

“It’s really a privilege to be able to provide a safe & enjoyable space for local artists to come and share their art with the community. Every week since its inception has brought out the best in the city, but this event is really a special, full-circle moment for a lot of us who are involved,” Montano told CL “Perception and I met back in 2019; I’ve only ever seen him elevate his game year after year and be the best example of how hard work & talent can get you to the next level. I only expect continued greatness, and am proud to coordinate this event with my friends & fellow artists Li Kenobi (host), DJ DFAZ, and DJ Dilman, who’ve all massively contributed to our music & arts scene.”

There’s no cover for Remix happening at Tampa Shuffle every Tuesday.

Readers are invited to submit their own events to Creative Loafing Tampa Bay’s things to do calendar.
