The Piano Man recently appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’’ to promote his latest single “Turn The Lights Back On” (his first since 2007), and told a tale about when he and Sting were both invited to the Grammys a few years ago.

The two decided to goof off—making pouty faces and flashing thumbs-downs—whenever an award was announced. Unfortunately, the cameras didn’t catch any of it, and Billy Joel still thinks that his friendship with the Police frontman would have made the ratings that year.

Instead, Sting (who Joel once wanted to recruit for a supergroup) co-headlines the first post-COVID Tampa gig from New York’s favorite son.

Tickets to see Billy Joel and Sting play Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 24 are still available and start at about $120 a pop.
