CL Sound Bites: Epitaph Records' history, Kyuss & Pulp reunions, new LP's by Jane's Addiction, Marilyn Manson, Paul Westerberg, and more! (with video)

Bad Religion's 30th anniversary album The Dissent Of Man came out last month. Spin took the opportunity to gather that band and many other So-Cal Punk scene players for an oral history of Epitaph Records. The label, founded by Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz, has played host to Bad Religion, NOFX, Pennywise, The Offspring, and many others over the years. The piece touches on the label's genesis in Brett's closet, the influence of Bad Religion's 1988 album Suffer in reviving the punk scene, and the mainstream-punk crossover of the 90s.

A quote by Pennywise's Fletcher Dragge best sums up the history lesson:

Everyone wanted to be on Epitaph or sound like Epitaph. I remem-ber Brett telling us he wanted to be the Dischord of the West Coast.

After the jump you'll find my favorite quotes from the Epitaph piece. I've also got reunion news about Kyuss, Pulp, and Garbage; and new album info from Jane's Addiction and Marilyn Manson, and a whole lot more!
