It’s a story as old as time: prolific rap duo records stellar second album, critics and fans praise it as the best of the year, then they remix the whole thing using cat sounds as the only backing instrument.

Meow the Jewels was an idea so absurd, the Internet couldn’t not let it become a reality. When Run the Jewels (aka El-P and Killer Mike) jokingly included it in a fake pre-order package for their last album, Run the Jewels 2, an ambitious fan created a Kickstarter page requesting donations for the $45,100 it’d take to make this meow-ful remix. Sure enough, the goal was reached with 12 days to spare. Being the good dude he is, El-P not only promised to make the album, but enlisted the help of names like Portishead’s Geoff Barrow, Bauur and Just Blaze — all while donating some of proceeds to the families of the late Eric Garner and Mike Brown.

Well, it’s been about eight months, and sure enough, shit’s gotten real. Late last month, E-P posted a small snippet of “Angelmeowster” (a remix of RTJ2’s “Angel Duster”). And today, he’s graced us with a preview of “Creown” (originally “Crown”), produced by The Alchemist. No word yet on a Meow the Jewels release date, but we’ll be sure, or purr, to let you know.

Watch the clips for “Creown” and “Angelmeowster” along with a trailer for the album below.
