To hear Queen is to love them, and to be born after 1986 is to lament never getting the chance to see the British rock legends perform live in concert or witness Freddie Mercury leading the fray with his high-spirited finesse and soaring operatic vocals.
But fans nationwide are finally getting the chance to be transported through space and time, if only for a night, when Fathom Events brings Queen: A Night in Bohemia to theaters across the country, including several right here in Tampa Bay. And if ever there were a medium that could do justice to Mercury's otherwordly charisma and Queen's bombastic sound, it is glimmering 50 feet tall, larger than life on the big screen.
Though this latest Fathom concert film event consists primarily of footage from the band's 1975 performance at Hammersmith Odeon in London, part of the 90-minute affair also promises never-before-seen interviews and behind-the-scenes footage of recording sessions from the days before they were selling out stadiums, as well as clips of the band laying down the tracks for the song that would eventually be considered among the greatest ever written, “Bohemian Rhapsody."
AMC Woodland Square 20 with IMAX (3128 Tampa Road, Oldsmar) hosts the one-night screening of Queen: A Night in Bohemia on Tue., March 8, at 7 p.m. Info on tickets here.
The night before, on Mon., March 7, at 8 p.m., the theater presents An Evening with Neil Young, a three-hour Fathom music event showcasing two Young endeavors: 1982 sci-fi comedy Human Highway and feature-length documentary Rust Never Sleeps, about his hits-packed 1978 performance at Cow Palace.
Finally, those with an ear for more recent music are treated to Imagine Dragons: Smoke + Mirrors on Wed., March 2, at 7:30 p.m., when a handful of local theaters (Woodland Square 20 along with AMC Regency 20 in Brandon, Regal Park Place Stadium in Pinellas Park and Citrus Stadium Park Mall 20 in Tampa) present the dynamic rock outfit's silver screen debut — a full presentation of their 2015 concert in Toronto.
Tickets for all events can be found at FathomEvents.com.
