In between teaching summer camp classes in Dunedin, Roc Helton spent his “sad song summer” giving life to a barrage of Tyler Childers and Jason Isbell-inspired material, some of it in Woodstock, New York.

The young folk singer-songwriter admits that his first time in a professional recording studio was last January, and yet, his debut album My Kind of Gone releases on Friday through Nashville’s Cloverdale Records.

Joining him as both an opener and backing band will be Mercy McCoy (which we’re betting is going to open for The Wallflowers in downtown Clearwater this fall), and kicking off the night is Helton’s dad Joshua Reilly, who helped him write the new album’s title track.

There is no cover for Roc Helton’s album release party happening Friday, Aug. 29 at Crooked Thumb Brewery in Safety Harbor.
