It’s been less than a month since Laith Abdel released an album with a rock band (Mindwash was at Crowbar on Nov. 11), and the Tampa expat does it again with Highway Advisory Radio, a group that travels between prog and stoner rock, plus R&B, on a debut LP, Heavy Traffic, out Friday.

The album is preceded by two singles, “Alone” and “Movement,” where Abdel, along with John Ostberg on drums (Dove/House of Lightning), bassist Andy Wajek (Unkempt), guitarists Joshua Paul (Nude Tayne/Six Volt Rodeo) plus Gordon Sloan (Dagger/Grandeur and the Delusions) bring a variety of musical influence to a set of rock and roll sermons that should draw more people into the Highway Advisory Radio cult.

Tickets to see Highway Advisory Radio, Chew and Movie Props play Union Hall in Lakeland on Friday, Dec. 1 are still available for $10.
