Rachael Sibilia is the co-founder of St. Petersburg's Girls Rock Camp and an all-around righteous defender of the local music scene. Read our Q&A below.
How have the last five or six weeks changed you as a parent?
I've been able to watch my daughter grow and blossom and see milestones that I normally wouldn't have since I work full time outside of the home. I've learned to be more patient and to get muddy and dirty with her rather than focus on the clean up after.
How are you talking to your kids about the coronavirus?
My daughter is two, so fortunately, she isn't able to comprehend the changes that are going on.

What do you miss the most from the “before” time?
I miss not being afraid of people. I miss going to the park and running into the store if I forgot an ingredient. I miss not being able to have play dates with other kiddos and being able to hug my friends and family.
Did you pick up any new good habits or practices that you hope to carry into the post-coronavirus world we’re about to enter?
I've been exercising more. I've been more mindful about spending. I've been more mindful about making meals and preparing things to share with other people. I've been baking almost daily and it gives me so much joy to share with friends and family, even if it's a quick front porch drop off. I hope to continue the slower life and sharing moving forward. I have also been gardening (which started pre-COVID) but I have been able to hone in on it and really LEARN the processes.
Is there any silver lining to being quarantined?
Being able to spend time at home and spend time with my family has been unbelievably healing. I've been so humbled by being able to continue working and keeping as normal as possible.
What worries you the most about our lives going forward?
I worry that the human race, as a whole, won't learn its lesson. The world needs to slow down and clean itself up. I fear that people will dive into old habits, and we will fall right back into the position we're in, and a third chance may not be an option.
Do you have a message for kids and parents in the greater Tampa Bay area?
Stay strong and positive and take a moment to be thankful that you're with your family. Rely on your friends and family, and ask for help. And slow down, get dirty! Do something new!
