What’s it like to be an “it-boy bedroom-pop auteur” these days? Ask Gus Dapperton, who was given the title by Pitchfork, which also called Dapperton’s debut LP “excitingly personal and a bit disingenuous.”
The 22-year-old born Brendan Rice recorded, mixed, and mastered the 2019 effort, Where Polly People Go To Read, himself and will wrap his fourth Euro-tour (plus hit Asia and Australia for the first time) before heading to the U.S. for a series of dates including a Halloween show at Orpheum in Ybor City. The gig is Dapperton’s only Florida appearance.
Dapperton’s Roland TR-626-driven, smoky indie-pop (and, um, dapper style) could end up making for a very enjoyable Halloween party. Tickets go on sale Friday, May 31 and will cost $18-$20. More information is available via eventbrite.com.
