SKIPPER'S 28th ANNIVERSARY WEEKEND: BONERAMA w/MAGADOG Big Easy brass band Bonerama has spent the past decade elating audiences in New Orleans and beyond with sturdy originals and ballsy remakes of classic rock staples like The Beatles' "Helter Skelter," Allman Brothers' "Whipping Post" and Led Zeppelin's "The Ocean." The ensemble features a four-trombone front, a sousaphone-led rhythm section, vocals and the searing lead guitar of Bert Collins. In addition to putting its stamp on rock numbers, Bonerama also displays jazz chops on standards like Thelonious Monk's "Epistrophy." Local Third Wave Ska standouts Magadog, which recently won a Best of the Bay plaque for Best Reunion, open. (Skipper's Smokehouse, Tampa)
LYLE LOVETT w/JOHN HIATT Two of the most lauded singer/songwriters of the Americana genre team up for an evening of solo, acoustic performances. Lovett ("If I Had a Boat," "Cowboy Man") will likely be in a somber mood, his home near Houston reportedly took a hit from Hurricane Ike. Expect Hiatt ("Have a Little Faith in Me," "Thing Called Love") to perform songs from his well-received new album, Same Old Man, which came out in May on New West. (Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater)
GREYMARKET CD RELEASE PARTY w/TRAVELING NORTH/DJ RIG Tampa electronica-rock duo GreyMarket unveils its freshly minted full-length, Some Orbits Will Never Decay (S.O.W.N.D.), a dynamic collection of intelligent, danceable cuts that also pack an emotional punch. SKIPPER'S 28th ANNIVERSARY WEEKEND: NEW RIDERS OF THE PURPLE SAGE w/NERVOUS TURKEY New Riders' self-titled 1971 album, which features guest spots by the Dead's Jerry Garcia and Mickey Hart, plus Commander Cody, ranks as a classic in the country-rock (or stoner country) pantheon. Singer/songwriter John Dawson retired to Mexico several years ago, leaving the current lineup with only guitarist/singer David Nelson from the original roster. (Skipper's Smokehouse, Tampa)
KING OF SPAIN w/RED ROOM CINEMA/BURROUGHS King of Spain, aka Matt Slate, returns to New World to offer more delicately intoned musings draped in trippy electronica effects. (New World Brewery, Ybor City)

KINDER GENTLER SUNDAYS: MATT BURKE/JEREMY GLOFF/DAVE REEDER/BILL SUMMER I've been hearing nothing but rave reviews about the newly introduced Kinder Gentler Sundays, a fortnightly series that goes down Sunday nights at Crowbar's outdoor Beer Garden. Veteran local scribe and Nessie frontman Scott Harrell hosts/curates the event. It features Tampa Bay's top rockers (I'm using the term loosely) in solo acoustic guitar mode. Have Gun, Will Travel leader Matt Burke headlines this week's jamboree. His much-loved — especially by the CL staff — band, which won a Best of the Bay for Best Local CD earlier in the month and recently returned from a couple high-profile festival gigs, started as an equally well-regarded solo project, making him a perfect fit for this gig. Jeremy Gloff just released his smart, emotive homage to the '80s, 1987. Bill Summers heads fierce alterna-rockers The Semis, and Dave Reeder is the maniacal (in the best way possible) singer for kick-ass punk band Car Bomb Driver. Should be a fun, laid-back, interesting evening. Doors open at 6 p.m. (The Beer Garden at Crowbar, Ybor City)
SAVIOURS w/HOUSE OF LIGHTNING/ELYSIUM/ORCHESTRA OF MUNITIONS Oakland's Saviours play straight-up metal of the late-'70s British variety: riffs that alternate between heavy and fast, with plenty of shredding solos. The vocals are muddled, but there's none of that Cookie Monster growling. Fans of early Metallica, Slayer, Sabbath, etc., should dig it. This show caps the third day of the "Crazy Weekend 2" fest. For a complete schedule, see transitionsartgallery.com. (Transitions Art Gallery @ Skatepark of Tampa, Tampa)
HIROSHIMA The band, made up mostly of Japanese Americans, formed around three decades ago, and has enjoyed a durable career straddling the line between smooth jazz, new age and world music. (Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Tampa) —Eric Snider
HOLOPAW w/AVERKIOU/LIZA KATE/INERTIA Near the start of the indie folk movement, Gainesville's Holopaw inked a deal with Sub Pop and issued its 2003 self-titled album and then 2005's Quit +/or Fight on the label. Both discs spotlight singer/songwriter/guitarist John Orth's melodramatic lyrics and fragile falsetto, which you'll either dig or find too precious. (New World Brewery, Ybor City)

O.A.R. Of a Revolution is a jam band for the Dave Matthews set. O.A.R. does its audience with bar rock flavored with watered-down reggae strains. (Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater)
REVIVAL TOUR FEAT. CHUCK RAGAN OF HOTWATER MUSIC/BEN NICHOLS OF LUCERO/TIM BARRY OF AVAIL Esteemed melodic hardcore (Hot Water Music), alt-country (Lucero) and punk (Avail) frontmen leave their respective bands behind for a solo acoustic outing. Sounds appealing. (Orpheum, Tampa)
