Country music always feels best at country bars, and that’s exactly what’s happening this spring when one of the genre’s hottest songwriters comes to the Bay area.

In 2023, Rolling Stone called Daniel Donato “Nashville’s new guitar hero,” and over the summer lauded how a new album channeled other guitar greats and Gram Parsons.

The 30-year-old kicks off a spring tour this month, and while he plays Florida’s Outlaw Country Cruise in March, landlubbers can catch a ride with Donato when he plays four Florida shows in April.

Tickets to see Daniel Donato play Cowboys Dance Hall in Largo on Friday, April 10 are on sale now and for $38.18.

The venue—Cowboys Dance Hall located at 1233 88th St. in Largo—is a no-frills, gigantic country line dancing bar open late six days a week, with daily lessons (and Kuya Kevin’s Filipino food truck parked outside).

Jersey-born, Nashville-living Donato, for his part, will please not just fans of the Flying Burrito Brothers, but those who like to take mushrooms and listen to My Morning Jacket or Hiss Golden Messenger, too. He released his Starlight EP in 2019 and live tests everything before putting it on records like last year’s Horizons, a barn-burning outing featuring pedal steel ace (and shoe fiend) Brett Resnick who’s played for Kelsey Waldon and Kacey Musgraves.
