Sleepy Vikings, They Will Find You Here (forthcoming, May 10, 2011, New Granada Records)
I'm writing a story about local indie alt roots outfit Sleepy Vikings to coincide with their album release show at Crowbar on Saturday, April 30, and have been digging on said album (They Will Find You Here) all weekend, its driving washes of moody Southern rock ambiance marked by the winding vocal harmonies of Tessa McKenna and Julian Connor, hers a bright and pretty splash of droning sweetness against his warm lower-register buzz. Overall, nine tracks that add up to a very fine debut. Stay tuned for the full-length feature… Click here to pre-order direct from New Granada.
On that note, I got to hang with the Sleepy Vikings last night, and since I was rocking their album, I figured I'd ask what they were currently rocking. Their answers were incredibly varied and (in some cases) rather surprising: Yuck, Britney Spears (more than one member insisted it was really good — don't judge), Wild Nothing, Die Antwoord, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin and Local Natives
Gabe All my new Record Store Day purchases!! (2011)
I'm up to my ears in vinyl and I love it! This past Saturday was Record Store Day and in my all-day travels around the area, I was able to track down most of the limited edition items I was in search of on this special day. Among the highlights: the new red vinyl Rush 7" single, the solo 12" EP from Beth Ditto (of Gossip), Bruce Springsteen 10" single, colored vinyl pressings of Tom Petty's first two albums, Urge Overkill green vinyl 7" single, and last but not least, the new numbered, limited edition Duran Duran "Girl Panic!" 7" single featuring a special remix by film director David Lynch. Thanks to all the local stores who participated in the event and helped make it truly memorable. [More entries with audio and video after the jump!]
