Ray – Ziggy Marley, Love Is My Religion (2006) and Wild And Free (2011)
Up until last year's Wild And Free, fans of Bob's oldest son were forced to sustain themselves on two live LPs, a five-year-old long-player (Love Is Religion) and Family Time, Ziggy Marley's 2009 children's album, which admittedly gets played every now and then within my walls. My upcoming interview with Ziggy is scheduled to happen at 1 p.m. EST today, so I've decided to get in the right frame of mind, by putting Religion and Wild And Free on shuffle.
Both efforts spare listeners of the progressive take on reggae that Ziggy's brothers – Stephen and (especially) Damian – prefer, but Ziggy's more traditional approach does get dipped in other genres every now and then (check out the video for the calypso-kissed "Into The Groove" after the jump). And both make for an easy listen. A pair of collaborative tracks are especially interesting. The first, somewhat-odd pairing comes in the form of a pro-marijuana track featuring guest vocals from Woody Harrelson "Wild And Free," and a more poignant cut, "It," finds Ziggy lamenting on life's big questions with the now-deceased Heavy D. It's always great to spend the morning listening to the offspring of a legend carry on his father's legacy, and I'm excited to get to chat with him today. Do any of you have any burning yearning questions? [Video & additional entries after the jump.]
