Today in rock history: On this date in 1975, the album that would make New York rock band Kiss a household name was released. Three moderately selling records built Kiss a dedicated following thanks to the band's over-the-top, explosive live performances, but Alive!, Kiss' first live album, captured the excitement and the energy the four-piece rock band was able to harness on a concert stage. Propelled by the live version of its song "Rock And Roll All Nite," the record was a hit and has been considered a landmark in the category of live concert albums. The record was recorded during live shows throughout the summer of '75 and it made it as high as No. 9 on Billboard's pop albums chart, the highest chart position the band had achieved to date. It also stayed on the charts for a whopping 110 weeks and made the band superstars.
