✔️ =Critic's Pick

Ray Volpe Ray Volpe played the clarinet in his childhood, but the Queen-born producer has come a long way since then. On Saturday he takes over this SoHo party spot to give revelers a heavy dose of the glitch-hopping brand of dubstep that’s earned him a new home (Los Angeles) and a place among other young producers like Borgore, Jauz, Getter and GG Magree. (The Drynk, Tampa) INFO

John Jacobs w/Stick Martin/Steve Lazlow/Steve Miller/Keiran Quinn John Jacobs used to clean the toilets at Tampa’s Powerhouse Gym, and that was after he appeared on MTV shows like Are You The One? and The Challenge. On Saturday the comic celebrates the release of his 40-track “magnum opus,” Summer At Southside, which was recorded with BOTB-winning producer Stick Martin. This show is a combo of stand-up and music where Jacobs and Martin will do separate sets before coming together at the end to perform tracks from Southside. (Finley’s, Largo) INFO

✔️ The Moody Blues This show from formidable classic rockers The Moody Blues is going to come with extra sentimentality, since flautist, vocalist and founding member Ray Thomas died one week ago at the age of 76. “Ray and I have been on this magical journey through life together since we were 14,” bassist John Lodge — who played with Thomas in their band El Riot and the Rebels in the early ’60s — wrote. “[We were] two young kids from Birmingham who reached for the stars… and we made it together.” While Thomas had been out of the band picture for at least 15 years, his loss will surely ring throughout the room at this Ruth Eckerd Hall gig. STRENGTHEN WHAT REMAINS
Before Sunshine Fest, Derek Trucks talks leaving 2017 behind, new Tedeschi-Trucks Band music and more

✔️ Sunshine Music Festival w/Tedeschi-Trucks Band/Mike Gordon/Medeski, Martin and Wood/Galactic/Hot Tuna/The Suffers/Foundation of Funk Remember how cold you were last weekend? Yeah, well, that’s not the case anymore, and this annual music festival wants to warm you up with a whole lot of blues, funk, fusion and folk. (UPDATE: We were wrong as hell about that forecast.) CL spoke with Derek Trucks in advance of the show, and you can read our interview with the former Allman Brothers guitarist (and preview of the festival) right here. Winter Jam w/Skillet/Kari Jobe/Cody Carnes/Building 429/John Crist/KB/more Memphis God-rock outfit Skillet brings a unique style of orchestral, progressive Christian contemporary pop to headline the wildly popular Winter Jam show led by Kari Jobe. Grammy-nominated pop band Building 429 round out the bill alongside Dove Award-winner Jordan Feliz, praise & worship star Dan Bremnes and more. (Amalie Arena, Tampa) INFO

✔️ untitled: a photo series w/Blacksmith A new photo show opens at Café Hey (a pioneering Franklin Street eatery and community space that’s been making the street cool for the better part of a decade now), and curators have tapped one of Tampa’s best emo bands, Blacksmith, to provide the sounds. Start looking at art at 7 p.m. and be there when the show starts at 8:30 p.m. (Café Hey, Tampa) INFO

DIFFERENT DRUMMERS
Cunsthaus' Noisy Womxn collaborative finds its rhythm in Tampa

Noisy Womxn The evening of noise happens in conjunction with Tempus Projects’ dance party fundraiser (which happens to be a no-media, no-phone, free space for dancing). Together the Womxn will perform what they’ve learned and present solo performances from Meaghan McManus and other members of the collective. They’ll be joined by special guests Sherry Donataccio and Nathalia Estrada. Ryann Slauson — who was the drummer in now-defunct Bay area indie-rock darlings Sleepy Vikings and leader of also-retired Tampa noise-music project LOINS — will also be there. Positivity w/Mes McDonald/DJ Silence The sounds of noodle-slurpin’ have been coming out of the Station House basement as of late, and the new Ichicoro Ane wasted no time booking a beloved Bay area DJ duo to bring all strains of house music to the speakers. CHICKING IN
Before St. Pete shows, Chick Corea shares jokes, insight and more

✔️ Chick Corea Trio feat. John Patitucci and Dave Weckl Chick Corea says he has all of his Grammys (more than Stevie Wonder!) in storage. That’s not false modesty, it’s just that the 76-year-old jazz patriarch is still focused on bringing smiles to fans’ faces, whether through music or his corny jokes. He shared his thoughts with CL in an interview you can read at right. (St. Petersburg College St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus, St. Petersburg) INFO

4th Annual Grandiversary Block Party w/Infinite Third/WD-HAN/Infinite Eights/DeLaran/Bri Wertman/Delta Josephine/DJ Kiger/The Vultures/99Lashes/more A bunch of Grand Central spots are celebrating anniversaries (Community Café is four years old, Old Key West turns 3 and VFW Post 39 is almost 100), so the block is throwing down by having a party soundtracked by some of the Sunshine City’s best. Free, family-friendly. (2400-2500 Block St. Petersburg Central Ave.) INFO
