✔️ Fleet Foxes w/Natalie Prass Last summer, Fleet Foxes released Crack-Up — its ambitious and exquisitely executed third full-length and the band’s first since 2011’s Grammy-nominated Helplessness Blues. The LP went on to become one of the year’s best, and in December the Seattle indie-folk group announced that it would visit relatively intimate venues to support Crack-Up during what is now a 43-date tour across the U.S. and Europe. Music snobs were surprised to see that the trek included four dates in Florida, and on Thursday the band kicks off the entire journey with a sold-out show at The Ritz in Ybor City. The show is also the band's Tampa debut. Locals can rejoice in knowing that lots of eyes will be on this show happening in our neck of the woods, and anyone with a ticket should do their best to catch an opening set from 31-year-old Natalie Prass, who just announced a release date for her sophomore album The Future and the Past (due June 1 via ATO). If The Future and the Pastis anything like its lead single, “Short Court Style,” then expect a soulful mini-dance party to break out before Fleet Foxes bring folk hymns to the stage. Candlebox Candlebox’s self-titled debut (you know, the one with “Cover Me” on it) came out 25 years ago, so the grunge-era survivors are celebrating by going on a North American tour that stops at Jannus on Thursday. While it’s not the original lineup featuring Kevin Martin, Peter Klett, Bardi Martin and Scott Mercado, fans have been promised a career-retrospective set packed with early hits and newer tunes. What’s crazy is that the mom jeans you wore in ‘93 are back in vogue, too. (Jannus Live, St. Petersburg) INFO

Only 5 of more than 20 headlining acts acknowledged a newspaper’s inquiry about the Strawberry Festival’s gun policy
Florida Strawberry Festival w/Gary Allan/Oak Ridge Boys/Jimmy Sturr & His Orchestra In January, Joe Jonas-led pop outfit DNCE announced that it would have to cancel its March 1 Strawberry Festival appearance due to a “scheduling conflict.” A visit to the band’s tour page doesn’t shed any light on the cancellation, but we hope it doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that Jonas’s dad was diagnosed with stage 2 colon cancer in March. “Every Storm” and “Songs About Rain” country singer Gary Allan stepped up to help ticket holders weather the cancellation, and tickets for the DNCE show will be honored at this show. Tampa author John Capouya draws a musical road map with his book Florida Soul
Florida Got Soul John Capouya, author of the book Florida Soul (from Ray Charles to KC and the Sunshine Band), will talk about the Sunshine's State's many contributions to rhythm & blues and soul music. With nibbles and a cash bar, this edition of Happy Hour With the Historian will be an evening of insights into the rich history of Florida-based music-making. Capouya, a former writer and editor with The New York Times and Newsweek, spent several years researching Florida's storied Chitlin' Circuit and the artists who either got started, or made a good living, on it. Sam Moore, Timmy Thomas, Latimore, Bobby Purify and others sat down and talked with him, but some of the best anecdotes in the book came from those who weren't big stars, but lived and worked hardscrabble on the periphery — like entrepreneur Henry Stone, bassist George "Chocolate" Perry and singers Frankie Gearing, Lavell Kamma and Linda Lyndell. And Capouya — who these days teaches Creative Writing at the University of Tampa — is an exceptional storyteller. (St. Petersburg Museum of History, St. Petersburg) INFO —Bill DeYoung
