A group of five men, the members of the band Obituary, stand against a dark brick wall. All five have long hair and beards, and they are dressed casually in dark t-shirts and jeans or shorts with a camouflage pattern. The lighting is dramatic, casting strong shadows and highlighting their faces and long hair. They are positioned closely together, looking directly at the camera with serious expressions. The image has a high-contrast, slightly gritty aesthetic typical of band publicity photos.

Doechii isn’t the only national star who was born and raised in Tampa, you know.

Heavy metal outfit Obituary is bringing back its Florida Swamp tour for a quick run, and naturally, it wraps up with two, pre-Christmas Tampa gigs.

It’s been 35 years since John Tardy and company released their sophomore album Cause of Death, which has gone onto be known as an absolutely quintessential death metal collection. Right now, the band is overseas with Testament performing most of the album cover-to-cover on the “Thrash of Titans” tour, and there are still rumblings of a new album coming in the next year or two.

But for now, expect to indulge in a true local rock history lesson, as the two gigs take place at Brass Mug, which has brought in acts such as Less Than Jake and a pre-Dookie Green Day.

Tickets to see Obituary play Tampa’s Brass Mug on Saturday and Sunday, December 13 & 14 are now available and cost $28.81.
