You could (and probably should) grab a new, nine-track demo from Tampa grindcore outfit SPIT, who've been together since June after member Tim Anderson initially began recording on his own over a year ago.
The guys — Anderson, 24, Dylan Colón and Tristan Jennings — recorded the ten-minute effort over two nights (tracking, then re-recording some vocals) in the Sulphur Springs home of Anderson, 24, and Colón, 24, who split vocal duties.
Patrick Brady helped them get it on tape and then mixed and mastered the effort, too. Brady, 29, is bassist for Tampa's own Merchandise (who CL last profiled in September).
"Pat is a nice dude and was in some really cool heavy bands so we figured he's the man for the job," Anderson told CL in a message. "He made the demo sound way better than anything we could've done ourselves and was chill about the whole process."
SPIT — who admire bands like , Man is the Bastard, Spazz, Siege, Dropdead, Hellnation and Infest — lump themselves into a few subgenres that occupy the more abrasive end of punk and hardcore (ie: grindcore), but casual fans might be a little more confused by "powerviolence."
"Powerviolence is essentially a mix of grindcore and hardcore punk," Anderson said when asked for an explanation for the layman. "Blast beats and riffy hooks. Vocally it's abrasive with minimal lyrics."
Have a listen below, and grab a copy on Bandcamp. Better yet, grab one in person when SPIT opens for Caveman Cult at American Legion Hall 111 in Tampa, Florida on January 14, 2017. Details on that show are available here.
