Tampa heavy metal giant Obituary is playing Orpheum’s Ybor location for what could be the last time

Four years after opening for Slayer on its European farewell tour, Obituary—Tampa Bay’s personal claim to heavy metal fame—is finally returning to the road for a massive tour with genre heavyweights Municipal Waste, Gatecreeper, and Enforced.
Kicking off this run of shows will be this Friday night homecoming gig for the 38-year-old headlining band. There have been rumblings about a new Obituary album emerging in the coming months, so it would be no surprise if the band will be kind enough to give its hometown a few sneak peeks at what’s to come.

Regardless, Orpheum is on the move, and this could be the last time you get to see a local metal staple in one of the historic district’s best venues.
