Four years after opening for Slayer on its European farewell tour, Obituary—Tampa Bay’s personal claim to heavy metal fame—is finally returning to the road for a massive tour with genre heavyweights Municipal Waste, Gatecreeper, and Enforced. Kicking off this run of shows will be this Friday night homecoming gig for the 38-year-old headlining band. There have been rumblings about a new Obituary album emerging in the coming months, so it would be no surprise if the band will be kind enough to give its hometown a few sneak peeks at what’s to come.
Regardless, Orpheum is on the move, and this could be the last time you get to see a local metal staple in one of the historic district’s best venues.
