We suppose he never really went anywhere, but it’s cool to see Randy Constan (aka Tampa’s own Peter Pan) playing music out and about. This isn’t the act that earned Constan late-night television slots and national notoriety, but it does find the Bay area legend playing the music of his youth (Beatles, Allman Brothers, Clapton, Pink Floyd, etc.) with a one-man set-up rife with an array of loop and effect pedals.
"I'm just one guy, so to get as close to being a 'band' as I can, I employ samplers, loopers, drum machines, different kinds of live 'over-dubbing' and more recently a midi converter," Constan told CL. "Kind of nice to have that organ in the beginning of "Light My Fire", or the flute in the beginning of Marsha Tucker's 'Can't You See' Sometimes I'll have a hiccup, but when it works it is often indeed pretty magical."
Sun. Sept. 16, 6 p.m. No cover. Pan Classics w/Randy Constan. Red Star Rock Bar, 5210 N. Florida Ave. Tampa. INFO.
