The Florida Orchestra’s 2015-16 season is winding down, but there’s enough time left for one more offering in its Rock Concert series as well as another free park presentation.
During The Police Experience on Friday night, a three-piece band performs the material of Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers (“Walking on the Moon,” “Roxanne,” “Message in a Bottle,” “Don’t Stand So Close to Me” and others) as re-imagined with TFO’s symphonic backing. On Mother’s Day Sunday, TFO throws its last Pops in the Park of the season, collecting canned good donations for Tampa Bay Harvest’s annual food drive, and delivering a program that includes music from Star Wars — The Force Awakens, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, and compositions by Dvorak, Strauss and The Beatles. Guest conductor Christian Baldini oversees both concerts.
The Police: Fri., May 6, 8 p.m., Mahaffey Theater, St. Petersburg, $35-$65; and Pops in the Park, Sun., May 8, 7:30 p.m., Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, Tampa, free admission.
