Joshua Reilly CD Release Clearwater, Florida has taken its hold on Springfield, Illinois songwriter Joshua Reilly, who has finally recorded and released a debut full length (Mercy on the Strange, released in July) where he’s assembled ten pristine tracks of Americana and alt-country that take listeners from the South Fork River all the way to Gibtown all while making fans of Tom Freund, Father John Misty and even Rufus Wainwright tap their toes. Five Eight w/Pinky Doodle Poodle Athens, Georgia emo OGs Five Eight is one of those groups that has gracefully been touring through our area forever, but this particular stop is even more special thanks to the inclusion of Pinky Doodle Poodle, which is yet another Japanese act visiting from Tokyo this week (see Your Pest Band’s August Thursday and Friday shows in Largo and downtown Tampa). Show Biz Kids We usually reserve a load of snark for blurbs about tribute acts, but there’s nothing to kid about when it comes to Show Biz Kids, which corrals the talents of a dozen Bay area musicians to help Phil Magallanes (a former member of bands fronted by Arturo Sandoval and Engelbert Humperdinck) recreate the music of Steely Dan. Well, you’ll have a chance when moombahton inventor Dave Nada brings the sound (think Dutch house slowed down to reggaeton tempos — approximately 108 BPM) to Crowbar in the hopes of raising money that he’ll use to make a personal donation to Planned Parenthood. Expect the Los Angeles native to branch out a bit as far as sonics go (techno, Baltimore club beats and trip-hop should be on the menu), but definitely make plans to bow down to the man if you’ve ever spent a Friday or Saturday night pre gaming to the songs of producers like Dillon Francis, David Heartbreak and Munchi. Zomboy w/Spag Heddy/Ricky Remedy Lollapalooza founder Perry Ferrell’s 2016, EDM-bashing interview with the Chicago Tribune is making the social media rounds once again (the Jane’s Addiction frontman basically said it makes him “want to vomit”) and if you even slightly agree with the 58-year-old, then you might want to stray from The Ritz where Amphitheatre is staging a performance from Joshua Mellody who the kids mostly know as Zomboy. The English dubstep producer and wub-master riding high on the release of a new EP, Rott N’ Roll, which has been heavy bass, organic sounding-snare and womps galore into the ears of America’s youth since its July 14 release.
