Today in rock history, on this date in 1982. New York rockabilly trio Stray Cats released its first album in the U.S., Built For Speed. Comprised mostly of tracks culled from the band's first two full length albums that were released in England, the record contained two songs that became big hits here in the States for the band, "Stray Cat Strut" and the Top 10 hit "Rock This Town." The band thrived from heavy MTV airplay at the time and helped introduce a young audience to the world of rockabilly music.

Born on this date in 1958 in Minneapolis, Minnesota — the one and only Prince Rogers Nelson. The man the world would soon know simply as Prince. The young virtuoso was an accomplished musician by his teens and played every instrument, while he also wrote, produced, and sang every note on his 1978 debut album, For You. What followed was an astounding career filled with great albums, legendary live performances, awards, accolades and praise. His untimely death shocked and saddened his followers worldwide but the legacy and music he left behind will live on forever.

Today in rock history, on this date in 1969. Rock supergroup Blind Faith, which featured Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood and Ginger Baker, made its live debut via a free concert at London's Hyde Park. The band's debut album had not yet been released; that would come months later. The release was steeped in controversy when it came out due to the front cover graphic featuring a young, topless girl. Many countries opted to release the album with a band photo on the cover.
