It's a breakdown of live music happening on this Hump Day Wed., April 22.
Cherub with ForteBowie, Mystery Skulls Setting silky falsetto croons and deeper effected intones over pulsing indie dance grooves comes Cherub, an electro-pop duo from Nashville that earned a bunch of web buzz when the video for sexy synth-fueled nightclub ode “Doses & Mimosas” went viral and clocked more than 5 million hits. New EP Leftovers spawned Studio 54-sparkling ode, “Disco Shit.” (State Theatre, St. Petersburg)
Bob Dylan and His Band There are two schools of Zimbo fans: those who love the man unconditionally and accept all the hiccups of his contemporary career (from questionable quality albums to dreadful live performances); and those who don’t. Both schools, however, can agree on Bob Dylan’s relentless songwriting talent and significant influence on music, his legacy stretching over more than five decades and upwards of 35 albums, all bootlegs, live LPs and comps excluded. This show has likely sold out but you might be able to find someone with an extra outside the venue… (Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater)
Dance Gavin Dance with Polyphia, Hail The Sun, Stolas It sure has been a dance for post-hardcore/pop outfit Dance Gavin Dance. The Sacramento sextet has endured several lineup changes and a scandal or two, but they keep coming back, delivering dissonant guitar riffs along with dueling abrasive and clean vocals, making for a sometimes weird yet catchy sound. Seventh studio album Instant Gratification offers a more refined version of Dance Gavin Dance with a few quirky elements, like the rap breakdown in “Eagles Vs. Crows.” (Orpheum, Ybor City) —Seth Peterson
BBQ Wednesday Acoustic Series with J.W. Teller Asheville, N.C.-by-way-of-Mississippi roots-folk singer-songwriter JW Teller presides over the latest free food n' tunes presentation. (New World Brewery, Ybor City)
