"Barista by day, songbird by night, solo artist Katie Callihan has been developing her sound alongside her stratocaster and black and white keys for a few years now."

We're not sure who wrote that bio, but we're not going to try and do more because it sums up the allure of this new-ish Bay area songwriter, whose voice will hopefully become a mainstay in the concert calendar. The bio goes on like this:

"Her lyrics – honest and mindful – carry a lot of weight sharing pieces of her life story and provide a perspective into her personal experiences that have shaped how she sees the world. Queen of pairing happy melodies with sad sentences – she's continuously writing something."

Callihan, for her part, is excited to be back on a campus she attended classes on as part of USFSP's Tiny Office series.

"I remember sitting in class and my mind drifting – writing down ideas for lyrics and melodies in-between my notes for class," she told CL. "It's all that I wanted to do – I'm glad that I went to college but it wasn't easy for me to focus and more times than not, I felt like it was a distraction from what I was really supposed to be doing, creating."

This is a great excuse to make it to St. Petersburg for the campus media & marketing program's project that hopes to bring more attention to area artists.

The performance takes place at University Student Center 200 6th Ave South in St. Petersburg. It's right across from the parking garage, and there are one hour free parking spots near the garage, like 20 feet away.
