Taking Back Sunday w/Every Time I Die Cynics will roll their eyes, but Jonah Bayer Rolling Stone, Noisey and A.V. Club contributor Jonah Bayer wasn’t too far off by calling Taking Back Sunday the “Pearl Jam of the emo scene.” The Long Island genre kings have been at it since 1999, and a 2016 LP (Tidal Wave) is yet another chapter in the band’s now eight-piece discography where frontmen John Nolan and Adam Lazzara refuse to pigeonhole themselves into the sounds of previous efforts. This show is sold out, but you might get a chance to see John Nolan if you can get to The Bends for an after party just a few blocks away. (Jannus Live, St. Petersburg) SOLD OUT
John Nolan No tickets for Taking Back Sunday’s sold out show? Don’t worry, there’s still hope. After that one is over over, lead guitarist and vocalist John Nolan heads to The Bends to give a slight different performance; a DJ set. Casual fans may not be aware, but Nolan has been doing these after party DJ shows for the better part of 15 years. With his preference for house music, it will be a cool way to wind down after the band’s show earlier in the night. (The Bends, St. Petersburg) INFO—LJH
Siobhan Monique It might be Friday’s most intriguing show when the uniquely talented Siobhan Monique performs at Palladium Theater’s Side Door Cabaret. The Tampa jazz singer has already sold out Hideaway Café, and it’ll be interesting to see how a niece of the late, great trombonist Buster Copper can adapt to a larger room where a Nina Simone-influenced sound should soar quite nicely over the tushies packed into the venue’s 175-seats. Barely Manilow Sorry kids, Barely Manilow is not a male review tracked by the sounds of “Mandy,” “Could It Be Magic” and “Even Now.” It’ll be a miracle if any of you get out of your Copacabana for a drive to Port Richey for a tribute act, but some of you freaks might be “Ready To Take a Chance Again,” right? The High Divers Who among us hasn’t wanted to be in a ‘kick ass rock band?’ That was the mindset and goal of Charleston-based group The High Divers. After the release of its 2015 album Riverlust, critics raved about the small time band’s debut effort. This secured the Divers opening gigs for acts like Nathaniel Rateliff and Delta Spirit, as well as a full time job touring throughout the Carolinas. For this show, they head south to the Sunshine State to show us some Southern love. Those lucky enough to attend the intimate Ella’s show might get to hear some new material off their upcoming album, due out in mid-September. (Ella's Americana Folk Art Cafe, Tampa) INFO —LJH
Classic Albums Live: Led Zeppelin IV While we don’t usually lend coverage to tributes, this one is too good to be ignored. In what is perhaps is the magnum opus of Led Zeppelin, Classic Albums Live will recreate, Led Zeppelin IV. Considered one of the greatest rock albums of all time, the iconic collection of songs features songs like “Stairway to Heaven,” “Black Dog,” and “Rock and Roll.” The LP has been certified platinum 23 times and happens to be one of the best selling records of all time, with over 37 million album sales worldwide, so expect a lot of people to pack into The Cap ready to sing along.
