Looks like Fallon, Letterman, and Saturday Night Live aren't the only ones getting on the solid late night music action (sorry Conan, we just don't tune in as often as we should anymore). You probably missed it, but the Queen Latifah Show (it airs locally at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on WTOG, when we're all at work or headed to the bar afterwards) gets its fair share of buzzing bands as evidenced by Wednesday's appearance by Little Dragon (via CoS).
The Swedish synth-poppers have been all over the place since February when they announced the May 13 release of a new LP, Nabuma Rubberband (pre-order here). While Letterman did get first dibs when frontwoman Yukimi Nagano & Co. brought lead single "Klapp Klapp" to his show, Queen Latifah got a freshie with this performance of the new album's sixth track, "Paris."
Nagano, 32, is her normal, absolutely charming self, and the tune is the kind of happy, totally danceable stuff we've come to expect from the band. The production is nowhere near the setup they brought to Letterman, but there are bubbles (!).
Have a look at the Latifah clip below, then check it out for yourself live when the band plays Orpheum in Ybor City on Wed., June 11. Doors are at 8 p.m., and Lawrence Rothman opens. Tickets are $20-$25. Orpheum is located at 1915 E. 7th Ave. in Ybor City. More information on the show is available here.
