It's kind of a gloomy start to the week, and that never helps the Monday situation. But, we can get through this together with a fine new Weekly Tune-Up full of freshly-released music for your ears.
For those R&B lovers out there, soulful crooner Anthony Hamilton released his new record this past Friday: What I'm Feelin'. No need for him to fix what ain't broken and that works just fine. "I Want You" is a lusty track that finds Anthony appreciating his lady over stuttering high-hats and piano passages.
Portland trio The Thermals just dropped We Disappear, a new LP that proves to be a nice balance of punk-pop and upbeat indie-rock. They brought in Death Cab For Cutie former Chris Walla to helm the LP; he's known for his excellent songwriting and production chops. "Years in a Day" is a dialed-down tune with Walla's fingerprints all over it. Not a bad thing at all.
Looks like the stangle-hold that Tidal had on Kanye West's Life of Pablo has finally weakened, seeing as "Famous" popped up on Spotify, Apple Music and Google Play Music as of this morning. "Famous" is the track that features the infamous line about Taylor Swift along with guest spots by Rihanna and Swizz Beatz. Say what you will about how Kanye has handled himself lately as spurred by the release of this album, but the production on "Famous" is top notch. Is Life of Pablo something you'd be excited about if it were available via other music outlets?
British DJ and producer SBTRKT has a new tune out, "Good Morning," featuring vocals by The-Dream. It's a slower building number that opens with blaring horns and subtle synthsm with The-Dream singing about starting off his day with the girl he plans to marry. It's not until around the last minute that SBTRKT introduces some percussion, and the track fades out nicely as The-Dream croons about a perfect morning. "Good Morning" is the lead single off SBTRKT's newly released Save Yourself project.
