Frank Ocean and his much anticipated album, Blond owned last week. Ocean will enter the start of this week with the number one record in the land and the third-largest debut of 2016. Most reviews I've read have had nothing but compliments and positive remarks. It's without a doubt one of finest releases of 2016. However, it's a new week, and I've collected fifteen of the coolest tunes to help you push through. Let's do this!
Empire of the Sun are responsible for creating one of most popular, yet unknown songs that I can remember with "Walking on a Dream." That was in 2008, but the Australian duo has given us two new singles off their upcoming LP, Two Vines, due out October 28. I chose the album's title track for this week's Tune-Up, and damn, it's catchy as hell. Empire of the Sun have certainly mastered that dreamy synth-rock sound, and "Two Vines" is in the same vein. Front-man Luke Steele's vocals just meld into the myriad of synth, keyboards, and guitars. They may have another hit on their hands.

Junior Boys are having an impressive year. They released the very underrated Big Black Coat back in February, are in the middle of a world tour, and just now gave us a surprise gift in the way of a new EP titled, Kiss Me All Night. Here we find four new tracks, all of which are damn good. Again I chose the title track, and for one reason only, it's a fun song to listen to. The vibe of these songs sounds as if they could've been placed on Big Black Coat, and would've felt right at home. It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of Junior Boys, and Kiss Me All Night was a very pleasant surprise. I'm looking forward to catching the Canadian duo in our own backyard this October at Crowbar. More information on that show is available at CL's event calendar
Danish band Lowly is mostly unheard in these parts, but it's my job to expose talented acts like this. With their debut album set to drop next year, they have given us "Deer Eyes" to wet our palette. Mixing jazz-inspired bass riffs and percussion with airy guitars they've created an emotional, yet relaxing song about companionship. It really is a lovely track.
Anyone in the mood for '90s hip-hop style production with sultry R+B vocals? S4U has gone back in the time machine and created just that. Their debut single "Twice" features a well placed horn sample, layered vocals, and simple hip-hop beat that will sound very reminiscent. No word on future material as of yet, but I will definitely keep my eyes on these ladies.
