A new movie about soul singer Sharon Jones premiered in New York and Los Angeles over the last two weekends, and now community radio station WMNF 88.5 FM is hosting the Florida premiere on August 24.
UPDATE NO. 2: A second screening at 9:30 p.m. has been added for the screening on August 24. More info is here.
UPDATE: Tickets are now available by phone and online.
The one night only screening of "Miss Sharon Jones!" is the only one within 200 miles and will happen at the Tampa Pitcher Show, located at 14416 N. Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa. Tickets are $11 and the film starts at 7:30 p.m. EDT (see the listing on CL's event calendar).
The flick, directed by two-time Academy Award winner Barbara Kopple chronicles the rise of the 60-year-old soul diva and also captures her battle through a devastating cancer diagnosis.
"Not only have we become life-long friends, but I’ve been deeply honored to have had the opportunity to be a part of the most intimate, difficult, extraordinary and exciting time of her life," Kopple, 70, wrote in a statement.
"We just finalized this event," WMNF programmer Lee Courtney (aka Flee) wrote in an email to CL. "It’s not up on the website yet and tickets are not yet for sale."
