Tampa's hottest new act, Yo Majesty has spent the past two years rewriting the macho-dominated hip-hop rulebook with brash, clever raps that champion "Kryptonite Pussy" to British-made, booty-shaking beats. Formerly a trio, MC Shunda K. and singer/hype-woman Jwl B. have soared from local to international sensations — both L.A. Weekly and Time Out London have praised Yo Majesty — thanks to their '06 debut, Yo EP, which features titles like "Club Action" and "The Monkey." The duo recently inked a deal with venerable London-based indie label Domino Records (Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand) and will likely be unveiling fresh material off their soon-to-be-released debut full-length when they play a highly anticipated homecoming gig at Crowbar Saturday. "The album will be dropping in August or September, so I'm assuming [Domino Records will] be dropping a couple of singles hopefully within the next month or the month after," Shunda K. told IndyWeek.com, in a story published May 14. "Aside from that, we're just going to keep touring and pushing it and reaching out to the people."
