One of the Worst Pool Party w/Florida Night Heat/DJ Blenda/Scott Imrich/Stephanie Powers Shurtz This one is for all the sweaty Cinderellas who might have slept through the summer. Tampa lifestyle brand One of the Worst (#OOTWx) is hosting a poolside party at the Barrymore in downtown Tampa where DJs from New World Brewery’s Sunset Sundays crew will be on hand along with one of Tampa’s finest selectahs, DJ Blenda. Instrumental power-rock trio Florida Night Heat will be playing a stripped down set for this party, and the #OOTWx crew will be unveiling new items from their clothing line (one piece bathing suits anyone?) plus slinging their now infamous Tampa Dog (a hot dog dressed up in swiss cheese & chorizo sauce, slow cooked pork and pickles). Remember to wait 30-minutes after eating before you jump in the water, kids. (Barrymore Hotel, Tampa) INFO
Peter Cetera Everybody needs a little time away, but former Chicago crooner Peter Cetera took it further than that when he skipped the band’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this spring. Offended fans (read: Robert Lamm) seem to forget that the 72-year-old hasn’t really been involved with the group since the late 80s, but the aficionados who feel like Cetera is still the inspiration are going to be in St. Pete when he brings a Grammy-winning solo catalog into town. Microgroove Presents: Blue Sunday Does Halloween w/DJ Demi Mourgue/EZ-Rob/Cub Seminole Heights record shop Microgroove didn’t pull out all the stops for the Stranger Things soundtrack release this week, but maybe it’s because they’re commandeering the patio at New World Brewery for an evening of costumed revelry soundtracked by “fiendishly good alternative, punk, indie, Darkwave, post-punk and more.” (New World Brewery, Ybor City) INFO
Haunted Death Touch Hotel w/Steve Aoki/ Botnek,/Stööki Sound/Garmiani/SMLE Depending on your tastes, you might have found the new Steve Aoki documentary (I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead) pretty scary. Fans who want to take it a step further might want to consider heading over to the Rocky Point area of Tampa on Sunday when the 38-year-old party guy transforms the Bay Harbor Hotel into “a labyrinth of 11 different themed rooms dedicated to the 7 Deadly Sins.” It’s part of a 20-city celebration of the 20th anniversary for Dim Mak, Aoki’s record label, and the event is kind of unprecedented in Tampa’s EDM space. Todd Snider w/Rorey Carroll An old friend has a new album out, and where Eastside Bulldog, rings in Todd Snider’s 50th birthday, the Portland, Oregon songwriter doesn’t look to be resting on any kind of laurels these days. The LP, released on October 7, born out of recording sessions where Snider was admittedly “blackout drunk.” He recently told Rolling Stone that he can remember tapping into some 50s & 60s songs, singing about kickass cars and yelling “baby” into the mic a whole lot. The Skipperdome has always been a great place to party, but we’re curious to see how wild it gets when community radio station WMNF 88.5 FM brings Snider in to bring Eastside Bulldog to life.
