From the opening reverb squeal and distorted power chord fuzz of set opener “Little Prayer,” to the rapid guitar-crunched drive and expectant appeal of “Sunshine” and propelling assault of “Gun,” Awkward Age’s 2014 full-length We Could Be Anywhere reveals a preoccupation with love, regret and nostalgia amid the ‘90s-imbued pop-punk sounds.
Though the LP was issued last fall, the Tampa Bay trio (made up of guitarist Matt Shumate, singer-bassist Vic Alverez and drummer Eric Turner) finally saved up enough scratch to press it to vinyl, and are throwing down in celebration of this minor achievement with a few other punk-rooted outfits, Orlando’s Coma Club, and locally-brewed Old Vices.
