Chalk it up to great timing or deep pockets, but the Big Guava Music Festival got a big blessing when it landed reunited hip-hop legends Outkast for its debut run at the Florida State Fairgrounds last year. Now, Big Guava is doing its best to fill the funked-out void left by the former ATLiens with these just-announced 2015 lineup additions: Pretty Lights, Awolnation, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, Night Riots and Jacksonville’s own Sunbears!.
They’ll be joined by a number of already-revealed big name acts — The Strokes, Hozier, The Pixies, Ryan Adams, Passion Pit, TV On the Radio, James Blake, Run the Jewels, Cold War Kids, Jenny Lewis and more — and playing over a shortened two-day span this upcoming May 8-9, 2015, at The Midflorida Credit Union Amphitheatre and adjacent fairgrounds.
This is, by all means, an attractive and well-rounded roster, but is it enough to draw the same (or bigger) crowds as last year and make Big Guava an official annual mainstay music fest in Tampa? It’s hard to speculate, but given the recent cancellation of the like-minded Coastline Festival in St. Petersburg, it’s safe to say Big Guava has its work cut out for it.
Two-day tickets are now on sale for $115 (general admission), $135 (general admission with pit access) and $325 (VIP Pit and VIP Reserved) at bigguavafest.com. No word yet on a date, or price, for single-day tickets. Stay tuned.
