Concert announcements: Robert Plant and the Band of Joy at Ruth Eckerd Hall, Jack Johnson at Ford Amphitheatre

Two big name acts have announced shows in the Bay area and you definitely want to know about them.

Robert Plant has confirmed a 12-city North American tour that begins in July and includes a stop on Friday, July 30, at Ruth Eckerd Hall. Plant tours with Band of Joy (active from 1966 to 1968), the group noted for featuring pre-Led Zeppelin members Plant and John Bonham. Plant and Band are due to preview material from a new album set for release on Rounder in late summer/early fall. Among the players on the recording who will also join Plant on the tour is vocalist Patty Griffin, multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Darrell Scott,  bassist/vocalist Byron House, drummer/percussionist/vocalst Marco Giovino, and co-producer/guitar/vocalist Buddy Miller. Plant has said about the record, “It’s been a blast working on these new songs…and I’m enjoying such creativity and vitality. It’s been a remarkable change of direction for all of us and as a group we all seem to have developed a new groove.”

Tickets for the July 30 stop go on sale this Friday, April 9, at noon. Reserved tickets are $99.50, $74.50, $59.50 and $49.50.

Also added to the concert calendar this week is singer-songwriter Jack Johnson, who announced a tour to coincide with the release of his fifth studio album, To The Sea, due out June 1 on his own label, Brushfire Records. Johnson's "To The Sea Tour 2010" comes to Tampa’s Ford Amphitheatre on Wednesday, August 25. Reserved seats are $55; lawn tickets are $35; the public on-sale starts this Saturday, April 10, at 10 a.m.
