What exactly is Kairos Creature Club? Concept band? Maybe. Cult? Not sure. Rockin’ indie band? Definitely.

Self-described as a “multilevel interrogative self-enlightenment organization” the group is comprised of a bunch of musicians already in a bunch of good bands—Lena Simon (La Luz), Glenn Michael Van Dyke (Boytoy), Matt Shaw (The Mother Gooses) and James Scott Rubia (Animal Clinic). To stay true to concept, the members go by pseudonyms: Kairos, Billy Creature, Daddy Braids and Lee Savage, respectively.

You can see for yourself when the Greenway records signee plays a “damn-this-is-free?” gig; strap on Kairos Create Club’s psychedelic jam “Kevlar” to get in the mood.

Kairos Creature Club. Friday, July 23, 8 p.m. Free. Hooch and Hive, Tampa.
