Canadian punk-rock band PUP may not be playing rooms as small as Orpheum after this, and that’s saying a lot since we first saw the Toronto group of friends tearing it up and even smaller places like Crowbar.

A new album, Morbid Stuff, is adored by gatekeepers at the New York Times, Pitchfork, NPR and Rolling Stone, and while the mainstream accolades may scream “sell-out” to some, the effort — which is rife with gang vocals, guitarmonies and lyrics about kicking the bucket — is truly one of the best records to come out of Canada in the last few years.

PUP w/Illuminati Hotties Hero. Tues. Sept. 17, 7 p.m. $20-$25. Orpheum, Ybor City. eventbrite.com.
