Until coronavirus ruined the live music industry, 2020 was supposed to be Mike Campbell’s year, but Tampa fans might not be able to seem this year at all.

Last week, reps at the Orpheum told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay that The Dirty Knobs show scheduled for September 9 is being postponed for a second time. CL reached out to Campbells PR for confirmation.

The former lead guitarist of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers spent 2019, and the latter quarter of 2018, on the road with Fleetwood Mac, filling Lindsey Buckingham’s place along with Crowded House’s Neil Finn. Now that the Mac is off the road, and there’s obviously no chance of a Heartbreakers reunion, Campbell decided that his side project since 2005, The Dirty Knobs, needed some love. The band’s first full-fledged U.S. tour, along with its debut album, Wreckless Abandon, was announced in January, promising that the unmistakable, rowdy Mike Campbell guitar growl will rise again. The band was even set to close the tour at Tampa’s Orpheum.

In March, Mike issued a statement announcing that both the album and tour would have to be postponed to September, citing a minor health problem. Not a peep about COVID-19 was uttered in the announcement, and with these rescheduled dates, Tampa would now be the first to see the tour, rather than the last.

Well…Sunday marked exactly a month before the Knobs are supposed to begin the Wreckless Abandon tour, and concerts are still being postponed and cancelled left and right—it seems like this one is no exception.

Refunds are available at point of purchase, or if you want to try your luck and wait for yet another rescheduled date, there are still tickets available on TicketMaster.
