GIFF Spotlight: Have Gun Will Travel and Friends Perform The Last Waltz

It's a concert doc about a tribute to a concert doc, and it's presented by GIFF in collaboration with the Reel Deal film series

The Last Waltz
Thurs., March 31, Crowbar.
Doors at 9 p.m., film at 10 p.m. $8-10. gasparillafilmfestival.com

Have Gun, Will Travel’s tribute to The Last Waltz (spurred by Brokenmold Entertainment’s Reel Deal film-and-music series event at Crowbar last November) was captured in this concert doc by Ryan Seybold and John Joeb of BoomBap Productions, on their own shoestring budget and with a mere two weeks of preparation. Still, it manages to encapsulate the mutual respect shared by everyone involved in re-creating Scorsese’s concert doc of The Band’s last stand, with footage of the performances interspersed with interview segments featuring all those involved. Despite its DIY production qualities, Have Gun, Will Travel and Friends Perform The Last Waltz is a clear homage to Scorsese while imbued with plenty of its own locally grown euphoria and feel-good energy.
