It’s been almost half of a century, and Mark Farner is still the captain to many Grand Funk Railroad fans who fell in love with the band’s charismatic frontman thanks to hits like “We’re An American Band,” “Some Kind of Wonderful and “I’m Your Captain (Closer to Home).” He plays a free show in downtown Clearwater, and there are some VIP tickets available for anyone interested in reserved seating, meet and greets or free beer and wine.

Blast Friday w/Mark Farner’s American Band/Stormbringer. Fri. May 31, 5:30 p.m.. No cover. Cleveland Street, Clearwater.
