Bay area alt-rock station 97X is hosting its own festival in Clearwater on Saturday, but this “End Of The World Festival” lineup curated by Bay area Americana favorite Have Gun, Will Travel (HGWT) is a good idea for those more interested in embracing the local scene than what’s getting piped in via corporate radio.
HGWT frontman Matt Burke, however, did tell CL that this should not be considered an album release celebration for his band’s forthcoming album (Strange Chemistry, due July 12).
“[An album release show] will happen a little later at Crowbar,” Burke said. “But the motivation behind the line-up was just to provide a fun day of music and a diverse line-up of talented artists who we’d like to see play on the same stage.”
The band gets it right by including young guns (Fever Beam, Mark Etherington, Johnny Mile and the Kilometers) as well as outfits manned by more seasoned Bay area rock and folk mainstays (Hotel Life, featuring Billy Summer and Captain Joe Harley; Joshua Reilly backed by his Sean Pomeroy and Adam Revak propelled Corn-Fed Locals) in the lineup for a party happening at Skipper’s Smokehouse.
Have Gun, Will Travel’s End of the World Music Festival w/Someday Honey/Joshua Reilly & The Corn-Fed Locals/Hotel Life/Mark Etherington & Kristopher James/Fever Beam/Johnny Mile and the Kilometers. Sat., May 18. 4 p.m. $15-$20. Skipper’s Smokehouse, Tampa. skipperssmokehouse.com.
