There are moments when it feels like Tampa and New Orleans might as well be sister cities. This show will be one of them thanks to Crescent City jazz prodigy Shamarr Allen, who brings all the hip-hop, funk, soul and R&B flavor of his Ninth Ward upbringing to 19th Street in Ybor City (Allen hus dubbed his style of NOLA music the “True Orleans” sound).
If the idea of crawfish boiling in a pot, second line parades and etoufé for breakfast makes you smile, then Crowbar is the only place to be on Thursday night. Party-starting Tampa collective Gwan Massive sets the vibes in the opening slot. Look below for a few more of this week’s jazz and classical options.
Shamarr Allen w/Gwan Massive. Thurs. May 16, 7 p.m. $11-$14 . Crowbar, Ybor City. crowbarybor.com.
