Jim Chambers spends his days teaching kids to play music at his Shinebox music school, and on September 14 he wants to give ‘em some money, too.
His next bi-annual Drum Bash happens at Shinebox, located at 4321 Gunn HWY. in Tampa, on September 14, and will showcase 20 of the school’s most talented pupils. A press release says that more than $2,000 in prizes will be awarded to the 18 participants.
Judges for the bash include Annabella Vivero who was recently pulled from the crowd at Ybor City’s Crowbar and asked to play drums alongside indie-rock band Hunny.
“When I started teaching drums in Tampa, I quickly realized the educational component of music offers the same exhilaration and spirit as breaking a new musical artist,” Chambers, who helped Maroon 5 and Loundon Wainwright win Grammy awards, said in the release.
“Teaching also reminds me that I am here on planet Earth to do one thing. That is to promote the making of music... so I built what I hope will be the best music academy on the planet.”
