Tim and I have collaborated on a rather diverse playlist of holiday-hued music for Weekly Tune-Up — make sure to return to Ear Buds tomorrow to check it out — but Dent May's new track about seasonal disenchantment landed in my inbox today and I felt compelled to share it immediately.
Appropriately, it was High Times that premiered the video for "I'll Be Stoned For Christmas," a groovy rambler where indie psych pop singer-songwriter waxing on the hazy holiday festivities he plans to enjoy after the obligatory eating, gift exchanging and family-driven activities (Sample lyrics: "I've been chilling with my parents, they're driving me mad / so I'm trying to get lifted with you now"; "Got an angel on my treetop and a devil in my mind / Have a smoke and pour a big shot, 'tis the season to be high / So fill my cup to the top, light me up til I'm hot.")
Robbie Hillyer Barnett directs the video, which follows a former Hollywood "It Girl" as she returns to her small hometown for the holidays and handles the ordeal by getting high. Alot. I imagine May drew off his own experiences to put together the ode; he lives and works in LA, but spends his holidays with the fam in his native Jackson, Miss. Watch the video below. Dent May also put together a Christmas playlist he dubbed "I'll Be Toned for Christmas," that you can listen to HERE.
