The Hymn For Her camp finally has a No. 1 album, sort of.
It’s called #1 (or “hashtag one” if you were born in the 21st century), and it’s the result of sonic canoodling with Justin Kaiser from Sarasota rock n' roll outfit Go Man. Born of a desire to play less “Margaritaville” and “Sweet Home Alabama,” the Mix Tapes originally covered British Invasion rock before injecting their own love of Lou Reed, Fats Domino, and Harry Nilsson into the mix.
“I think we all naturally write catchy tunes. We have a lot in common, but our individual approaches are slightly different,” the band stated in a press release. “It usually comes out stronger by the time everyone adds their own little mojo to it.”
The results have been well received and earned them a slew of new fans at this year’s edition of Tropical Heatwave, not to mention catching the ear of AC/DC’s Brian Johnson, who randomly caught a show and told The Mix Tapes that their set was “the most entertained he’d been since The Beatles died.”
Recorded in over a week in a living room, #1 reeks a love of '60s pop and the give-a-fuck-less attitude that the band was founded on.
