Listen to Parker Millsap be a badass on this Mountain Stage session, see him live at Skipper’s on Sept. 29

Sarah Jaroz opens the folkie-dream bill

Parker Millsap’s voice on his new LP, The Very Last Day, is near unforgettable with all it’s forceful rasp and inconsolable pain, but he turns it down a bit to great effect on this session recorded live in Charleston, West Virginia (via NPR).

The Oklahoma boy is stripped down on the Mountain Stage session and accompanied by a rowdy fiddle that plays a perfect sidekick to his more subdued, but still amped up vocal on songs like “Pining” and “The Very Last Day.” He even explains how his last visit to the town ended up with a flooded out concert an an impromptu performance in his hotel lobby.

Listen to that bad boy go, and relate to his impulse to wake up then go right back to sleep, below.

See it live at Skipper’s Smokehouse on September 29. Tickets are $17 via More information is available on CL’s events calendar page.
