State Theatre hosts a special night of live local music when Madeira Beach-brewed reggae quartet Resinated kicks off a month-long tour – which winds through Florida before heading to the Northeast – and celebrates the release of a new full-length, Smoke Signals, on Friday.
The dozen dance-bumpin’ reggae tracks are marked by tuneful two-part vocal harmonies, wet wah-wah guitars, funk-grooving organ and well-placed blows of trumpet, and all carry posi-vibing messages, whether waxing poetic on living the good life in set opener “Paradise,” or delivering an urgent rousing battle-call in “Can’t Stop Now,” or praising the heady green prescription that cures all ills in the dub-sticky “Sativah Fevah.” Smoke Signals is Resinated’s debut on Right Coast Records, the label co-founded by BALLYHOO! frontman Howi Spangler. Warm-up on this night from Sowflo, PASADENA and Kash’d Out.
Details: Resinated Album Release Party, Fri., Feb. 6, 7:30 p.m. doors, State Theatre, St. Petersburg, $10 advance, $12 day of show.
