Tropical Heatwave, WMNF's annual music festival, has a new component this year: The Pre-Heat Music Industry panels.
Held at CL Space (part of Creative Loafing's new offices at 1911 8th Ave. in Ybor City), the three-hour event is described as workshop where local musicians can "gain insight from key players in the Tampa Bay Music scene."
First panel, 1 p.m. "Music Publishing and Copyright Law"
Entertainment lawyer Kevin Astl will present information on how to copyright your work and the in-and-outs of music publishing and licensing.
2 p.m. "Producer/Beat Workshop"
Local DJs DJ Royce (Versatile Entertainment, Acafool), Lazy (WMNF, Red Tide), Spindiana Jones (Tampa Bay Dream Team), Moderator: Young Deacon (TampaHipHop.com) demonstrate how they create their beats, clear their samples and gain insight on how they collaborate with MCs/vocalists.
3 p.m. Demo Listening panel
Critics Leilani Polk (Creative Loafing), Flee (WMNF), Husky Jon (97X) will listen to tracks by local artists and offer their opinions on both the recordings and how to better promote them.
